Area of expertise

TRAUMA. When you’ve gone through or witnessed a traumatic experience, it can seem like you cannot let go of it. Whether the event happened recently or a long time ago, I can help you explore your thoughts and feelings relating to specific event or experiences to help you develop new coping skills so you can learn to manage your symptoms, reduce painful memories, feel safe again and move on with your life. RACIAL DISTRESS. Experiencing racism and discrimination can have psychological impacts that lead to trauma. While racial stress might not be your main concern, it could be contributing to your distress. Together, we’ll explore and identify possible roles that racial stress and micro-aggressions might be playing in your life while applying strategies to process and heal from hidden wounds of racial trauma. VALUES, GOALS AND LIFE PURPOSE. Without a meaningful purpose that guides us, making sense of suffering, resolving conflicts, making decisions and future plans can become difficult and cause a general feeling of indifference toward life. I can help you explore or rediscover goals and motivations that can lead to a purposeful and meaningful life. SELF-CONFIDENCE, SELF-WORTH, SELF-ESTEEM contribute greatly to mental well-being. Low self-esteem can cause feelings of self-doubt, shame and inadequacy and prevent individuals from following their goals and dreams and finding fulfilling relationships. Self-esteem issues are often ingrained in harmful self-criticism. I can help you identify negative self-talk rooted in false beliefs to reduce self-criticism and increase self-compassion. ANXIETY. Whether it's panic attacks, unrelenting worries or obsessive thoughts, I can help you uncover the underlying causes of your worries, help you learn strategies for coping, relaxing and problem solving, gain new perspectives for looking at situations in new and less frightening ways. DEPRESSION. Through counselling I can help you work through the root of your depression, understand what your triggers are and why you feel a certain way. I can help you develop skills and insight to feel better, happier, more hopeful again, and help prevent depression from coming back.

Professional background

I have been working with young adults for 14 years in various capacities. I understand and relate with the struggles and ‘get’ the fears and worries that young adults navigate in their lives. My intersectionality provides me with a genuine understanding of the challenges faced by diverse cultural, ethnic and minority groups. I embrace individual differences and diversity regardless of religious, cultural, sexual and political orientations. Areas of Special Interest: Supporting young adults and people from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My Approach: My approach to counselling is based on unconditional acceptance and genuine relationships. I believe there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to suit all clients. To achieve the best possible outcome, I rely on collaboration with clients to select the most suitable one from a variety of techniques. I bring to my counselling practice the unconditional love and deep empathy of a mother, solution focused creativity of an educator and migrant skills and values on cross-cultural communication and flexibility to comprehend diverse worldviews.
