Area of expertise

As a trained counsellor, Dave supports athletes, coaches, and administrators in the sport community through their mental health journey. Dave also specialises in working with adolescent males, with over 20 years of experience working with this population. He creates a supportive and empathetic space where you can explore your challenges and work together to find solutions. Together through understanding your existing support structures he uses theoretical frameworks to help you move forward.

Professional background

Dave is a trained counsellor (Master of Counselling, Massey University) who specialises in working with adolescents and people in the sports community. Dave has an extensive background in all levels of sport, from community to high performance. He began his career as a physical education teacher, and in 2008 he moved full-time into the sport sector and now counselling and mental health support. Dave has held roles as Coaching & Programmes Development Manager at the New Zealand Breakers and General Manager of Auckland Basketball. He is currently the Director of Sport at Auckland Grammar School alongside being the co-director of Sideline Advisor. He has also been a national age group coach and national camp director for Basketball New Zealand for 18 years.
